Drawbacks and benefits of tolerance. (1)

“Mendicants, there are these five drawbacks of intolerance. What five? Most people find you unlikable and unloveable. You have lots of enmity and many faults. You feel lost when you die. And when your body breaks up, after death, you’re reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell. These are the five drawbacks to intolerance.
There are these five benefits of tolerance. What five? Most people find you dear and lovable. You have little enmity and few faults. You don’t feel lost when you die. And when your body breaks up, after death, you’re reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm. These are the five benefits of tolerance.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย โทษของความไม่อดทน ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) ผู้ไม่อดทน ย่อมไม่เป็นที่รัก ไม่เป็นที่ชอบใจของคนเป็นอันมาก
๒) ผู้ไม่อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้มากด้วยเวร
๓) ผู้ไม่อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้มากด้วยโทษ
๔) ผู้ไม่อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้หลงกระทำกาละ
๕) ผู้ไม่อดทน ภายหลังจากการตาย เพราะกายแตกทำลาย ย่อมเข้าถึงอบาย ทุคติ วินิบาต นรก
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เหล่านี้แล โทษของความไม่อดทน ๕ ประการ.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อานิสงส์ของความอดทน ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) ผู้อดทน ย่อมเป็นที่รัก เป็นที่ชอบใจของคนเป็นอันมาก
๒) ผู้อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้ไม่มากด้วยเวร
๓) ผู้อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้ไม่มากด้วยโทษ
๔) ผู้อดทน ย่อมเป็นผู้ไม่หลงกระทำกาละ
๕) ผู้อดทน ภายหลังจากการตาย เพราะกายแตกทำลาย ย่อมเข้าถึงสุคติโลกสวรรค์
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เหล่านี้แล อานิสงส์ของความอดทน ๕ ประการ.
