A follower by faith, a follower of the teachings and a stream-enterer. (6)

At Sāvatthī.
“Mendicants, feeling born of eye contact is impermanent, perishing, and changing. Feeling born of ear contact, feeling born of nose contact, feeling born of tongue contact, feeling born of body contact, and feeling born of mind contact are impermanent, perishing, and changing.
Someone who has faith and confidence in these principles is called a follower by faith. They’ve arrived at inevitability regarding the right path, they’ve arrived at the level of the good person, and they’ve transcended the level of the bad person. They can’t do any deed which would make them be reborn in hell, the animal realm, or the ghost realm. They can’t die without realizing the fruit of stream-entry.
Someone who accepts these principles after considering them with a degree of wisdom is called a follower of the teachings. They’ve arrived at inevitability regarding the right path, they’ve arrived at the level of the good person, and they’ve transcended the level of the bad person. They can’t do any deed which would make them be reborn in hell, the animal realm, or the ghost realm. They can’t die without realizing the fruit of stream-entry.
Someone who understands and sees these principles is called a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะจักษุสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะโสตสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะฆานสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะชิวหาสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะกายสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น เวทนาที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะมโนสัมผัสไม่เที่ยง มีความแปรปรวน มีความเปลี่ยนเป็นประการอื่น.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคลใด มีความเชื่อ น้อมจิตไปในธรรมเหล่านี้ ด้วยอาการอย่างนี้ บุคคลนี้เราเรียกว่า สัทธานุสารี ก้าวลงสู่สัมมัตตนิยาม (ความแน่นอนในสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง) ก้าวลงสู่สัปปุริสภูมิ (ภูมิของสัปบุรุษ) ล่วงพ้นปุถุชนภูมิ ไม่อาจที่จะทำกรรม ที่ทำแล้วจะเข้าถึงนรก กำเนิดเดรัจฉาน หรือเปรตวิสัย และไม่อาจจะทำกาละ ตราบเท่าที่ยังไม่ทำให้แจ้งซึ่งโสดาปัตติผล.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรมเหล่านี้ ทนต่อการเพ่งด้วยปัญญาโดยประมาณยิ่งแก่บุคคลใด ด้วยอาการอย่างนี้ บุคคลนี้เราเรียกว่า ธัมมานุสารี ก้าวลงสู่สัมมัตตนิยาม (ความแน่นอนในสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง) ก้าวลงสู่สัปปุริสภูมิ (ภูมิของสัปบุรุษ) ล่วงพ้นปุถุชนภูมิ ไม่อาจที่จะทำกรรมที่ทำแล้วจะเข้าถึงนรก กำเนิดเดรัจฉาน หรือเปรตวิสัย และไม่อาจจะทำกาละ ตราบเท่าที่ยังไม่ทำให้แจ้งซึ่งโสดาปัตติผล.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคลใดย่อมรู้ ย่อมเห็นซึ่งธรรมเหล่านี้ ด้วยอาการอย่างนี้ บุคคลนี้เราเรียกว่า โสดาบัน ผู้มีความไม่ตกต่ำเป็นธรรมดา เป็นผู้มีอันจะได้ตรัสรู้ในกาลเบื้องหน้า.
