“Mendicants, these five things impede longevity. What five? Doing what is unsuitable, not knowing moderation in what is suitable, eating food unfit for consumption, unethical behavior, and bad friends. These are the five things that impede longevity.
These five things promote longevity. What five? Doing what is suitable, knowing moderation in what is suitable, eating food fit for consumption, ethical conduct, and good friends. These are the five things that promote longevity.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ เป็นเหตุให้อายุสั้น ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) ไม่เป็นผู้ทำความสบายแก่ตนเอง
๒) ไม่รู้จักประมาณในสิ่งที่สบาย
๓) บริโภคสิ่งที่ย่อยยาก
๔) เป็นผู้ทุศีล
๕) มีมิตรเลวทราม
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้แล เป็นเหตุให้อายุสั้น.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ เป็นเหตุให้อายุยืน ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) เป็นผู้ทำความสบายแก่ตนเอง
๒) รู้จักประมาณในสิ่งที่สบาย
๓) บริโภคสิ่งที่ย่อยง่าย
๔) เป็นผู้มีศีล
๕) เป็นผู้มีมิตรดี
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้แล เป็นเหตุให้อายุยืน.
