“Mendicants, give up what’s not yours. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness. And what isn’t yours? Form isn’t yours: give it up. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Suppose a person was to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and leaves in this Jeta’s Grove, or burn them, or do what they want with them. Would you think: ‘This person is carrying us off, burning us, or doing what they want with us?’”
“No, sir. Why is that? Because that’s neither self nor belonging to self.”
“In the same way, mendicants, form isn’t yours: give it up. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

At Savatthi. “Bhikkhus, whatever is not yours, abandon it. When you have abandoned it, that will lead to your welfare and happiness. And what is it, bhikkhus, that is not yours? Form is not yours: abandon it. When you have abandoned it, that will lead to your welfare and happiness. Feeling is not yours … Perception is not yours … Volitional formations are not yours … Consciousness is not yours: abandon it. When you have abandoned it, that will lead to your welfare and happiness.
“Suppose, bhikkhus, people were to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and foliage in this Jeta’s Grove, or to burn them, or to do with them as they wish. Would you think: ‘People are carrying us off, or burning us, or doing with us as they wish’?”
“No, venerable sir. For what reason? Because, venerable sir, that is neither our self nor what belongs to our self.”
“So too, bhikkhus, form is not yours … consciousness is not yours: abandon it. When you have abandoned it, that will lead to your welfare and happiness.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย สิ่งใดไม่ใช่ของเธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงละสิ่งนั้นเสีย สิ่งนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายละได้แล้ว จักเป็นไปเพื่อประโยชน์เกื้อกูล เพื่อความสุข ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อะไรเล่าไม่ใช่ของเธอทั้งหลาย.

ภิกษุทั้งหลาย วิญญาณไม่ใช่ของเธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงละมันเสีย สิ่งนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายละได้แล้ว จักเป็นไปเพื่อประโยชน์เกื้อกูล เพื่อความสุข.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เปรียบเหมือนคนเขาพึงนำหญ้า กิ่งไม้ และใบไม้ที่มีอยู่ในเชตวันนี้ไป หรือพึงเผา หรือพึงทำตามสมควรแก่เหตุ เธอทั้งหลายจะมีความคิดอย่างนี้ไหมว่า คนเขานำพวกเราไป หรือเผาเรา หรือทำพวกเราตามสมควรแก่เหตุ ดังนี้.
ไม่เป็นอย่างนั้น ภันเต.
ข้อนั้น เพราะเหตุอะไร.
ภันเต เพราะเหตุว่า ความรู้สึกว่าตัวตน และของตน ของพวกข้าพระองค์ไม่มีในสิ่งเหล่านั้น.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฉันนั้นก็เหมือนกัน รูปไม่ใช่ของเธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงละมันเสีย สิ่งนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายละได้แล้ว จักเป็นไปเพื่อประโยชน์เกื้อกูล เพื่อความสุข เวทนา … สัญญา … สังขาร … วิญญาณ ไม่ใช่ของเธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงละมันเสีย สิ่งนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายละได้แล้ว จักเป็นไปเพื่อประโยชน์เกื้อกูล เพื่อความสุข.
