อินทรีย์ ๕ (๑)
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อินทรีย์ ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ ๕ ประการ อะไรบ้าง คือ สัทธินทรีย์ วิริยินทรีย์ สตินทรีย์ สมาธินทรีย์ ปัญญินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็จะพึงเห็นสัทธินทรีย์ในธรรมไหนเล่า พึงเห็นสัทธินทรีย์ในโสตาปัตติยังคะ ๔ พึงเห็นสัทธินทรีย์ได้ในธรรมนี้.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็จะพึงเห็นวิริยินทรีย์ในธรรมไหนเล่า พึงเห็นวิริยินทรีย์ในสัมมัปปธาน ๔ พึงเห็นวิริยินทรีย์ได้ในธรรมนี้.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็จะพึงเห็นสตินทรีย์ในธรรมไหนเล่า พึงเห็นสตินทรีย์ในสติปัฏฐาน ๔ พึงเห็นสตินทรีย์ได้ในธรรมนี้.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็จะพึงเห็นสมาธินทรีย์ในธรรมไหนเล่า พึงเห็นสมาธินทรีย์ในฌานทั้ง ๔ พึงเห็นสมาธินทรีย์ได้ในธรรมนี้.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็จะพึงเห็นปัญญินทรีย์ในธรรมไหนเล่า พึงเห็นปัญญินทรีย์ในอริยสัจ ๔ พึงเห็นปัญญินทรีย์ได้ในธรรมนี้.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สัทธินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้มีศรัทธา เชื่อปัญญาตรัสรู้ของพระตถาคตว่า แม้เพราะเหตุอย่างนี้ๆ พระผู้มีพระภาคนั้น เป็นพระอรหันต์ ตรัสรู้เองโดยชอบ ทรงถึงพร้อมด้วยวิชชาและจรณะ เสด็จไปดีแล้ว ทรงรู้แจ้งโลก เป็นสารถีฝึกบุรุษที่ควรฝึก ไม่มีผู้อื่นยิ่งกว่า เป็นครูผู้สอนของเทวดาและมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย ทรงเบิกบานแล้ว เป็นผู้จำแนกธรรม ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สัทธินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็วิริยินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ ปรารภความเพียร เพื่อละอกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย เพื่อความถึงพร้อมแห่งกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย มีกำลัง มีความบากบั่น มั่นคง ไม่ทอดทิ้งธุระในกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า วิริยินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สตินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้มีสติ ประกอบด้วยสติเป็นเครื่องรักษาตนอย่างยิ่ง ระลึกได้ ตามระลึกได้ ซึ่งกิจที่ทำ และคำที่พูดแม้นานได้ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สตินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สมาธินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ กระทำโวสสัคคารมณ์ (ความที่จิตมีการปล่อย หรือการวางเป็นอารมณ์) แล้วได้สมาธิ ได้เอกัคคตาจิต (จิตมีอารมณ์เดียว) ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สมาธินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ปัญญินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้มีปัญญา ประกอบด้วยปัญญาที่รู้ถึงความเกิดขึ้นและความดับไป อันเป็นอริยะ เป็นเครื่องชำแรกกิเลส ให้ถึงความสิ้นทุกข์โดยชอบ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า ปัญญินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เหล่านี้แลอินทรีย์ ๕ ประการ.

“Mendicants, there are these five faculties. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.
And where should the faculty of faith be seen? In the four factors of stream-entry.
And where should the faculty of energy be seen? In the four right efforts.
And where should the faculty of mindfulness be seen? In the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
And where should the faculty of immersion be seen? In the four absorptions.
And where should the faculty of wisdom be seen? In the four noble truths.
These are the five faculties.”

“Mendicants, there are these five faculties. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.
And what is the faculty of faith? It’s when a noble disciple has faith in the Realized One’s awakening: ‘That Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those who wish to train, teacher of gods and humans, awakened, blessed.’ This is called the faculty of faith.
And what is the faculty of energy? It’s when a mendicant lives with energy roused up for giving up unskillful qualities and embracing skillful qualities. They’re strong, staunchly vigorous, not slacking off when it comes to developing skillful qualities. This is called the faculty of energy.
And what is the faculty of mindfulness? It’s when a noble disciple is mindful. They have utmost mindfulness and alertness, and can remember and recall what was said and done long ago. This is called the faculty of mindfulness.
And what is the faculty of immersion? It’s when a noble disciple, relying on letting go, gains immersion, gains unification of mind. This is called the faculty of immersion.
And what is the faculty of wisdom? It’s when a noble disciple is wise. They have the wisdom of arising and passing away which is noble, penetrative, and leads to the complete ending of suffering. This is called the faculty of wisdom.
These are the five faculties.”
