อินทรีย์ ๕ ( ๒)
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อินทรีย์ ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ ๕ ประการ อะไรบ้าง คือ สัทธินทรีย์
วิริยินทรีย์ สตินทรีย์ สมาธินทรีย์ ปัญญินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สัทธินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้มีศรัทธา เชื่อปัญญาตรัสรู้ของตถาคตว่า แม้เพราะเหตุอย่างนี้ๆ พระผู้มีพระภาคนั้น เป็นพระอรหันต์ ตรัสรู้เองโดยชอบ ทรงถึงพร้อมด้วยวิชชาและจรณะ เสด็จไปดีแล้ว ทรงรู้แจ้งโลก เป็นสารถีฝึกบุรุษที่ควรฝึก ไม่มีผู้อื่นยิ่งกว่า เป็นครูผู้สอนของเทวดาและมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย ทรงเบิกบานแล้ว เป็นผู้จำแนกธรรม ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สัทธินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็วิริยินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ ปรารภความเพียร เพื่อละอกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย เพื่อความถึงพร้อมแห่งกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย มีกำลัง มีความบากบั่น มั่นคง ไม่ทอดธุระในกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย เธอนั้น ย่อมทำความพอใจให้เกิดขึ้น ย่อมพยายาม ปรารภความเพียร ประคองจิต ตั้งจิตไว้ เพื่อความไม่เกิดขึ้น แห่งอกุศลธรรมอันบาปทั้งหลายที่ยังไม่เกิดขึ้น เธอนั้น ย่อมทำความพอใจให้เกิดขึ้น ย่อมพยายาม ปรารภความเพียร ประคองจิต ตั้งจิตไว้ เพื่อละอกุศลธรรมอันเป็นบาปทั้งหลายที่เกิดขึ้นแล้ว เธอนั้น ย่อมทำความพอใจให้เกิดขึ้น ย่อมพยายาม ปรารภความเพียร ประคองจิต ตั้งจิตไว้ เพื่อความเกิดขึ้น แห่งกุศลธรรมทั้งหลายที่ยังไม่เกิดขึ้น เธอนั้น ย่อมทำความพอใจให้เกิดขึ้น ย่อมพยายาม ปรารภความเพียร ประคองจิต ตั้งจิตไว้ เพื่อความถึงพร้อม เพื่อความไม่เลอะเลือน เพื่อความงอกงามยิ่งขึ้น เพื่อความไพบูลย์ เพื่อความเจริญ เพื่อความบริบูรณ์แห่งกุศลธรรมทั้งหลายที่เกิดขึ้นแล้ว ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า วิริยินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สตินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้
มีสติ ประกอบด้วยสติเป็นเครื่องรักษาตนอย่างยิ่ง ระลึกได้ ตามระลึกได้ ซึ่งกิจที่ทำ และคำที่พูดแม้นานได้ อริยสาวกนั้น ย่อมพิจารณาเห็นกายในกายอยู่ มีความเพียร มีสัมปชัญญะ มีสติ กำจัดอภิชฌาและโทมนัสในโลกเสีย ย่อมพิจารณาเห็นเวทนาในเวทนาทั้งหลายอยู่ มีความเพียร มีสัมปชัญญะ มีสติ กำจัดอภิชฌาและโทมนัสในโลกเสีย ย่อมพิจารณาเห็นจิตในจิตอยู่ มีความเพียร มีสัมปชัญญะ มีสติ กำจัดอภิชฌาและโทมนัสในโลกเสีย ย่อมพิจารณาเห็นธรรมในธรรมทั้งหลายอยู่ มีความเพียร มีสัมปชัญญะ มีสติ กำจัดอภิชฌาและโทมนัสในโลกเสีย ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สตินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็สมาธินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ กระทำโวสสัคคารมณ์ (ความที่จิตมีการปล่อย หรือการวางเป็นอารมณ์) แล้วได้สมาธิ ได้เอกัคคตาจิต (จิตมีอารมณ์เดียว) อริยสาวกนั้น สงัดจากกามและอกุศลธรรมทั้งหลาย จึงบรรลุปฐมฌาน อันมีวิตกวิจาร มีปีติและสุข อันเกิดจากวิเวกแล้วแลอยู่ เพราะวิตกวิจารระงับไป จึงบรรลุทุติยฌาน อันเป็นเครื่องผ่องใสแห่งจิตในภายใน เป็นธรรมเอกผุดขึ้น ไม่มีวิตก ไม่มีวิจาร มีแต่ปีติและสุข อันเกิดจากสมาธิแล้วแลอยู่ เพราะความจางคลายไปแห่งปีติ จึงอยู่อุเบกขา มีสติสัมปชัญญะ และเสวยสุขด้วยกาย จึงบรรลุตติยฌาน อันพระอริยะกล่าวว่า ผู้นั้นเป็นผู้อยู่อุเบกขา มีสติ อยู่เป็นสุขแล้วแลอยู่ เพราะละสุขและทุกข์เสียได้ เพราะความดับไปแห่งโสมนัสและโทมนัสในกาลก่อน จึงบรรลุจตุตถฌาน อันไม่มีทุกข์ไม่มีสุข มีแต่ความบริสุทธิ์แห่งสติเพราะอุเบกขาแล้วแลอยู่ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า สมาธินทรีย์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ปัญญินทรีย์เป็นอย่างไร คือ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกในกรณีนี้ เป็นผู้มีปัญญา ประกอบด้วยปัญญาเครื่องหยั่งถึงความเกิดขึ้นและความดับไป อันเป็นอริยะ เป็นเครื่องชำแรกกิเลส ให้ถึงความสิ้นไปแห่งทุกข์โดยชอบ อริยสาวกนั้น ย่อมรู้ตามความเป็นจริงว่า นี้ทุกข์ นี้ทุกขสมุทัย นี้ทุกขนิโรธ นี้ทุกขนิโรธคามินีปฏิปทา ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า ปัญญินทรีย์.

“Mendicants, there are these five faculties. What five? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.
And what is the faculty of faith? It’s when a noble disciple has faith in the Realized One’s awakening: ‘That Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those who wish to train, teacher of gods and humans, awakened, blessed.’ This is called the faculty of faith.
And what is the faculty of energy? It’s when a mendicant lives with energy roused up for giving up unskillful qualities and embracing skillful qualities. They’re strong, staunchly vigorous, not slacking off when it comes to developing skillful qualities. They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that bad, unskillful qualities don’t arise. They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that bad, unskillful qualities that have arisen are given up. They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that skillful qualities arise. They generate enthusiasm, try, make an effort, exert the mind, and strive so that skillful qualities that have arisen remain, are not lost, but increase, mature, and are completed by development. This is called the faculty of energy.
And what is the faculty of mindfulness? It’s when a noble disciple is mindful. They have utmost mindfulness and alertness, and can remember and recall what was said and done long ago. They meditate observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world. They meditate observing an aspect of feelings … mind … principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world. This is called the faculty of mindfulness.
And what is the faculty of immersion? It’s when a noble disciple, relying on letting go, gains immersion, gains unification of mind. Quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, they enter and remain in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected. As the placing of the mind and keeping it connected are stilled, they enter and remain in the second absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of immersion, with internal clarity and confidence, and unified mind, without placing the mind and keeping it connected. And with the fading away of rapture, they enter and remain in the third absorption, where they meditate with equanimity, mindful and aware, personally experiencing the bliss of which the noble ones declare, ‘Equanimous and mindful, one meditates in bliss.’ Giving up pleasure and pain, and ending former happiness and sadness, they enter and remain in the fourth absorption, without pleasure or pain, with pure equanimity and mindfulness. This is called the faculty of immersion.
And what is the faculty of wisdom? It’s when a noble disciple is wise. They have the wisdom of arising and passing away which is noble, penetrative, and leads to the complete ending of suffering. They truly understand: ‘This is suffering’ … ‘This is the origin of suffering’ … ‘This is the cessation of suffering’ … ‘This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’. This is called the faculty of wisdom.
These are the five faculties.”
