The five things lead to disillusionment, dispassion and extinguishment.

“Mendicants, these five things, when developed and cultivated, lead solely to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment.
What five? A mendicant meditates observing the ugliness of the body, perceives the repulsiveness of food, perceives dissatisfaction with the whole world, observes the impermanence of all conditions, and has well established the perception of their own death.
These five things, when developed and cultivated, lead solely to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้ อันบุคคลเจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว ย่อมเป็นไปเพื่อความเบื่อหน่ายโดยส่วนเดียว เพื่อความคลายกำหนัด เพื่อความดับ เพื่อความสงบ เพื่อความรู้ยิ่ง เพื่อความรู้พร้อม เพื่อนิพพาน ธรรม ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ ภิกษุในกรณีนี้
๑) พิจารณาเห็นความไม่งามในกาย
๒) มีความสำคัญว่าเป็นของปฏิกูลในอาหาร
๓) มีความสำคัญว่าไม่น่ายินดีในโลกทั้งปวง
๔) พิจารณาเห็นความไม่เที่ยงในสังขารทั้งปวง
๕) มีมรณสัญญาอันตั้งไว้ดีแล้วในภายใน
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๕ ประการเหล่านี้แล อันบุคคลเจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว ย่อมเป็นไปเพื่อความเบื่อหน่ายโดยส่วนเดียว เพื่อความคลายกำหนัด เพื่อความดับ เพื่อความสงบ เพื่อความรู้ยิ่ง เพื่อความรู้พร้อม เพื่อนิพพาน.
