“What do you think, bhikkhus, is the eye permanent or impermanent?” —“Impermanent, venerable sir.”—“Is what is impermanent suffering or happiness?”— “Suffering, venerable sir.”—“Is what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change fit to be regarded thus: ‘This is mine, this I am, this is my self’?”—“No, venerable sir.”

“Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple experiences revulsion towards the eye, towards forms, towards eye-consciousness, towards eye-contact, towards whatever feeling arises with eye-contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-nor-pleasant. He experiences revulsion towards the ear … towards the nose … towards the tongue … towards the body … towards the mind … towards whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition…. Experiencing revulsion, he becomes dispassionate. Through dispassion his mind is liberated. When it is liberated there comes the knowledge: ‘It’s liberated.’ He understands: ‘Destroyed is birth, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more for this state of being.’
“This, bhikkhus, is the way that is suitable for attaining Nibbāna.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราจักแสดงปฏิปทาที่สัปปายะ (สะดวกสบาย) แก่การบรรลุนิพพาน แก่เธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงฟัง จงใส่ใจให้ดี เราจักกล่าว ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ปฏิปทาที่สัปปายะแก่การบรรลุนิพพานนั้นเป็นอย่างไร.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจักสำคัญความข้อนั้นว่าอย่างไร ตาเที่ยงหรือไม่เที่ยง.
ไม่เที่ยง ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง สิ่งนั้นเป็นทุกข์ หรือเป็นสุขเล่า.
เป็นทุกข์ ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง เป็นทุกข์ มีความแปรปรวนเป็นธรรมดา ควรหรือหนอที่จะตามเห็นสิ่งนั้นว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นเรา นั่นเป็นตัวตนของเรา.
ไม่ควรเห็นอย่างนั้น ภันเต.
รูปทั้งหลาย … วิญญาณทางตา … ผัสสะทางตา … สุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางตาเป็นปัจจัย เที่ยงหรือไม่เที่ยง.
ไม่เที่ยง ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง สิ่งนั้นเป็นทุกข์ หรือเป็นสุขเล่า.
เป็นทุกข์ ภันเต.
ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง เป็นทุกข์ มีความแปรปรวนเป็นธรรมดา ควรหรือหนอที่จะตามเห็นสิ่งนั้นว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นเรา นั่นเป็นตัวตนของเรา.

ก็สิ่งใดไม่เที่ยง สิ่งนั้นเป็นทุกข์ หรือเป็นสุขเล่า.

ภิกษุทั้งหลาย อริยสาวกผู้ได้สดับแล้ว เห็นอยู่อย่างนี้ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในตา ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในรูปทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางตา ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางตา ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางตาเป็นปัจจัย.
ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในหู ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในเสียงทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางหู ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางหู ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางหูเป็นปัจจัย.
ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในจมูก ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในกลิ่นทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางจมูก ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางจมูก ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางจมูกเป็นปัจจัย.
ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในลิ้น ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในรสทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางลิ้น ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางลิ้น ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรือ
อทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางลิ้นเป็นปัจจัย.
ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในกาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในโผฏฐัพพะทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางกาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางกาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางกายเป็นปัจจัย.
ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในใจ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในธรรมทั้งหลาย ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในวิญญาณทางใจ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในผัสสะทางใจ ย่อมเบื่อหน่ายแม้ในสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรือ
อทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะผัสสะทางใจเป็นปัจจัย.
เมื่อเบื่อหน่าย ย่อมคลายกำหนัด เพราะคลายกำหนัดจึงหลุดพ้น เมื่อหลุดพ้นแล้ว ย่อมมีญาณหยั่งรู้ว่า หลุดพ้นแล้ว เธอย่อมรู้ชัดว่า ชาติสิ้นแล้ว พรหมจรรย์อยู่จบแล้ว กิจที่ควรทำ ได้ทำเสร็จแล้ว กิจอื่นเพื่อความเป็นอย่างนี้มิได้มี.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้แล ปฏิปทาที่สัปปายะแก่การบรรลุนิพพาน.
