Seeing as impermanent, ignorance is given up.

At Sāvatthī.
Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:
“Sir, how does one know and see so as to give up ignorance and give rise to knowledge?”
“Mendicant, knowing and seeing the eye, sights, eye consciousness, and eye contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
Knowing and seeing the ear, sounds, ear consciousness, and ear contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by ear contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
Knowing and seeing the nose, smells, nose consciousness, and nose contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by nose contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
Knowing and seeing the tongue, tastes, tongue consciousness, and tongue contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by tongue contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
Knowing and seeing the body, touches, body consciousness, and body contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by body contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
Knowing and seeing the mind, thoughts, mind consciousness, and mind contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by mind contact as impermanent, ignorance is given up and knowledge arises.
That’s how to know and see so as to give up ignorance and give rise to knowledge.”

At Savatthi. Then a certain bhikkhu approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, sat down to one side, and said to him:
“Venerable sir, how should one know, how should one see, for ignorance to be abandoned and true knowledge to arise?”
“Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the eye as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees forms as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees eye consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees eye contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with eye-contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the ear as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees sounds as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees ear consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees ear contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with ear contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the nose as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees odours as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees nose consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees nose contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When nose knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with nose contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the tongue as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees tastes as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees tongue consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees tounge contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with tounge contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the body as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees tactile objects as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees body consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees body contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with body contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
Bhikkhu, when one knows and sees the mind as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees mental phenomena as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees mind consciousness as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees mind contact as impermanent, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises. When one knows and sees as impermanent whatever feeling arises with mind contact as condition—whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-norpleasant—ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.
When one knows and sees thus, bhikkhu, ignorance is abandoned and true knowledge arises.”
เรื่องเกิดขึ้นที่พระนครสาวัตถี ครั้งนั้น ภิกษุรูปหนึ่งเข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาคถึงที่ประทับ ถวายอภิวาทแล้วนั่งในที่สมควร ครั้นแล้วได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคดังนี้ว่า
ภันเต บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่อย่างไร เห็นอยู่อย่างไรจึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งตา โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งรูปทั้งหลาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งจักษุวิญญาณ โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งจักษุสัมผัส โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะจักษุสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งหู โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งเสียงทั้งหลาย … ซึ่งโสตวิญญาณ … ซึ่งโสตสัมผัส … ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะโสตสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งจมูก โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งกลิ่นทั้งหลาย … ซึ่งฆานวิญญาณ … ซึ่งฆานสัมผัส … ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะฆานสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งลิ้น โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งรสทั้งหลาย … ซึ่งชิวหาวิญญาณ … ซึ่งชิวหาสัมผัส … ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะชิวหาสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งกาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งโผฏฐัพพะทั้งหลาย … ซึ่งกายวิญญาณ … ซึ่งกายสัมผัส … ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะกายสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งใจ โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งธรรมทั้งหลาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งมโนวิญญาณ โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งมโนสัมผัส โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่ เห็นอยู่ซึ่งสุขเวทนา ทุกขเวทนา หรืออทุกขมสุขเวทนา ที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะมโนสัมผัสเป็นปัจจัย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
ภิกษุ บุคคลเมื่อรู้อยู่อย่างนี้แล เห็นอยู่อย่างนี้แล จึงจะละอวิชชาได้ วิชชาจึงจะเกิดขึ้น.
