Four ways of practice. (3)

“Mendicants, there are four ways of practice. What four?
1. Painful practice with slow insight,
2. painful practice with swift insight,
3. pleasant practice with slow insight, and
4. pleasant practice with swift insight.
Of these, the painful practice with slow insight is said to be inferior in both ways: because it’s painful and because it’s slow. This practice is said to be inferior in both ways.
The painful practice with swift insight is said to be inferior because it’s painful.
The pleasant practice with slow insight is said to be inferior because it’s slow.
The pleasant practice with swift insight is said to be superior in both ways: because it’s pleasant, and because it’s swift. This practice is said to be superior in both ways.
These are the four ways of practice.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ปฏิปทา ๔ ประการเหล่านี้ ๔ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) ทุกขาปฏิปทาทันธาภิญญา (ปฏิบัติเป็นทุกข์ รู้ได้ช้า)
๒) ทุกขาปฏิปทาขิปปาภิญญา (ปฏิบัติเป็นทุกข์ รู้ได้เร็ว)
๓) สุขาปฏิปทาทันธาภิญญา (ปฏิบัติเป็นสุข รู้ได้ช้า)
๔) สุขาปฏิปทาขิปปาภิญญา (ปฏิบัติเป็นสุข รู้ได้เร็ว)
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ในปฏิปทา ๔ ประการนั้น ทุกขาปฏิปทาทันธาภิญญานี้ นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาที่ทราม เพราะประการทั้งสอง คือ เพราะปฏิบัติเป็นทุกข์ และเพราะรู้ได้ช้า ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ปฏิปทานี้ นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาที่ทราม เพราะประการทั้งสอง.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ในปฏิปทา ๔ ประการนั้น ทุกขาปฏิปทาขิปปาภิญญานี้ นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาที่ทราม เพราะปฏิบัติเป็นทุกข์.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ในปฏิปทา ๔ ประการนั้น สุขาปฏิปทาทันธาภิญญานี้ นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาที่ทราม เพราะรู้ได้ช้า.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ในปฏิปทา ๔ ประการนั้น สุขาปฏิปทาขิปปาภิญญานี้ นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาประณีต เพราะประการทั้งสอง คือ เพราะปฏิบัติเป็นสุข และเพราะรู้ได้เร็ว ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ปฏิปทานี้นับว่าเป็นปฏิปทาประณีต เพราะประการทั้งสอง.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เหล่านี้แล ปฏิปทา ๔ ประการ.
