“Mendicants, speech that has five factors is well spoken, not poorly spoken. It’s blameless and is not criticized by sensible people. What five? It is speech that is timely, true, gentle, beneficial, and loving. Speech with these five factors is well spoken, not poorly spoken. It’s blameless and is not criticized by sensible people.”

“Monks, a statement endowed with five factors is well-spoken, not ill-spoken. It is blameless & unfaulted by knowledgeable people. Which five?
“It is spoken at the right time. It is spoken in truth. It is spoken affectionately. It is spoken beneficially. It is spoken with a mind of goodwill.
“A statement endowed with these five factors is well-spoken, not ill-spoken. It is blameless & unfaulted by knowledgeable people.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย วาจาอันประกอบด้วยองค์ ๕ ประการ เป็นวาจาสุภาษิต ไม่เป็นวาจาทุพภาษิต เป็นวาจาไม่มีโทษ และวิญญูชนไม่ติเตียน องค์ ๕ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) กล่าวแล้วควรแก่เวลา (กาเลน ภาสิตา โหติ)
๒) กล่าวแล้วตามสัตย์จริง (สจฺจ ภาสิตา โหติ)
๓) กล่าวแล้วอย่างอ่อนหวาน (สณฺหา ภาสิตา โหติ).
๔) กล่าวแล้วอย่างประกอบด้วยประโยชน์ (อตฺถสญฺหิตา ภาสิตา โหติ)
๕) กล่าวแล้วด้วยเมตตาจิต (เมตตฺตจตฺเตน ภาสิตา โหติ)
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย วาจาอันประกอบด้วยองค์ ๕ ประการเหล่านี้แล เป็นวาจาสุภาษิต ไม่เป็นวาจาทุพภาษิต เป็นวาจาไม่มีโทษ และวิญญูชนไม่ติเตียน.
