“Mendicants, when four things are developed and cultivated they lead to penetrating wisdom. What four? Associating with good people, listening to the true teaching, proper attention, and practicing in line with the teaching. When these four things are developed and cultivated they lead to penetrating wisdom.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๔ ประการเหล่านี้ อันบุคคลเจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว ย่อมเป็นไปเพื่อความเป็นผู้มีปัญญาเจาะแทงกิเลส (นิพฺเพธิกปญฺตาย) ธรรม ๔ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) การคบสัปบุรุษ
๒) การฟังพระสัทธรรม
๓) การทำไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย
๔) การปฏิบัติธรรมสมควรแก่ธรรม
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรม ๔ ประการเหล่านี้แล อันบุคคลเจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว ย่อมเป็นไปเพื่อความเป็นผู้มีปัญญาเจาะแทงกิเลส.
