About the elemental world system (humans on other planets).

Then Venerable Ānanda went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:
“Sir, I have heard and learned this in the presence of the Buddha: ‘Ānanda, the Buddha Sikhi had a disciple called Abhibhū. Standing in the Brahmā realm, he could make his voice heard throughout the galaxy.’ I wonder how far a Blessed One, a perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha can make their voice heard?”
“He was a disciple, Ānanda. Realized Ones are immeasurable.”
For a second time …
For a third time, Ānanda said to the Buddha: “… I wonder how far a Blessed One, a perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha can make their voice heard?”
“Ānanda, have you heard of a thousandfold lesser world system, a galaxy?”
“Now is the time, Blessed One! Now is the time, Holy One! Let the Buddha speak. The mendicants will listen and remember it.”
“Well then, Ānanda, listen and pay close attention, I will speak.”
“Yes, sir,” Ānanda replied. The Buddha said this:
“Ānanda, a galaxy extends a thousand times as far as the moon and sun revolve and the shining ones light up the quarters. In that galaxy there are a thousand moons, a thousand suns, a thousand Sinerus king of mountains, a thousand Indias, a thousand Western Continents, a thousand Northern Continents, a thousand Eastern Continents, four thousand oceans, four thousand Great Kings, a thousand realms of the Gods of the Four Great Kings, a thousand realms of the Gods of the Thirty-Three, of the Gods of Yama, of the Joyful Gods, of the Gods who Love to Create, of the Gods who Control the Creations of Others, and a thousand Brahmā realms. This is called a thousandfold lesser world system, a ‘galaxy’.
A world system that extends for a thousand galaxies is called a millionfold middling world system, a ‘galactic cluster’.
A world system that extends for a thousand galactic clusters is called a billionfold great world system, a ‘galactic supercluster’.
If he wished, Ānanda, a Realized One could make his voice heard throughout a galactic supercluster, or as far as he wants.”
“But how would the Buddha make his voice heard so far?”
“First, Ānanda, a Realized One would fill the galactic supercluster with light. When sentient beings saw the light, the Realized One would project his call so that they’d hear the sound. That’s how a Realized One could make his voice heard throughout a galactic supercluster, or as far as he wants.”
When he said this, Venerable Ānanda said to Venerable Udāyī, “I’m so fortunate, so very fortunate, to have a teacher with such power and might!”
When he said this, Venerable Udāyī said to Venerable Ānanda, “What is it to you, Reverend Ānanda, if your teacher has such power and might?”
When he said this, the Buddha said to Venerable Udāyī, “Not so, Udāyī, not so! If Ānanda were to die while still not free of greed, he would rule as king of the gods for seven lifetimes, and as king of all India for seven lifetimes, because of the confidence of his heart. However, Ānanda will be extinguished in the present life.”
ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านพระอานนท์ได้เข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาคยังที่ประทับ ถวายอภิวาทพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้วนั่งในที่สมควร ครั้นแล้วได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า
ภันเต ข้าพระองค์ได้ฟังมา ได้รับมาเฉพาะพระพักตร์พระผู้มีพระภาคว่า อานนท์ สาวกของพระผู้พระภาคสิขี ซึ่งมีนามว่าอภิภู สถิตอยู่ในพรหมโลก สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้ ๑,๐๐๐ โลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ ภันเต ส่วนพระผู้มีพระภาคอรหันตสัมมาสัมพุทธะเล่า สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้โลกธาตุเท่าไรรู้แจ้งได้.
อานนท์ นั้นเป็นเพียงสาวก ส่วนตถาคตทั้งหลายนับไม่ได้ ประมาณไม่ได้.
ท่านพระอานนท์ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคเป็นครั้งที่ ๒ ว่า ภันเต ข้าพระองค์ได้ฟังมา ได้รับมาเฉพาะพระพักตร์พระผู้มีพระภาคว่า อานนท์ สาวกของพระผู้พระภาคสิขี ซึ่งมีนามว่าอภิภู สถิตอยู่ในพรหมโลก สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้ ๑,๐๐๐ โลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ ภันเต ส่วนพระผู้มีพระภาคอรหันตสัมมาสัมพุทธะเล่า สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้โลกธาตุเท่าไรรู้แจ้งได้.
อานนท์ นั้นเป็นเพียงสาวก ส่วนตถาคตทั้งหลายนับไม่ได้ ประมาณไม่ได้.
ท่านพระอานนท์ ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคแม้เป็นครั้งที่ ๓ ว่า ภันเต ข้าพระองค์ได้ฟังมา ได้รับมาเฉพาะพระพักตร์พระผู้มีพระภาคว่า อานนท์ สาวกของพระผู้พระภาคสิขี ซึ่งมีนามว่าอภิภู สถิตอยู่ในพรหมโลก สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้ ๑,๐๐๐ โลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ ภันเต ส่วนพระผู้มีพระภาคอรหันตสัมมาสัมพุทธะเล่า สามารถใช้เสียงทำให้โลกธาตุเท่าไรรู้แจ้งได้.
อานนท์ เธอได้ฟังเรื่อง ๑,๐๐๐ โลกธาตุ เพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น
ข้าแต่พระผู้มีพระภาค ถึงเวลาสมควรแล้ว ข้าแต่พระสุคต ถึงเวลาสมควรแล้ว ที่พระผู้มีพระภาคจะพึงแสดงธรรม ภิกษุทั้งหลายได้ฟังธรรมของพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว จักทรงจำไว้.
อานนท์ ถ้าอย่างนั้น เธอจงฟัง จงใส่ใจให้ดี เราจักกล่าว.
อานนท์ ดวงจันทร์และดวงอาทิตย์โคจรส่องแสงสว่างไปทั่วทิศ ตลอดเนื้อที่มีประมาณเท่าใด โลกที่มีเนื้อที่ประมาณเท่านั้น มีจำนวน ๑,๐๐๐ ใน ๑,๐๐๐ โลกนั้น มีดวงจันทร์ ๑,๐๐๐ ดวง มีดวงอาทิตย์ ๑,๐๐๐ ดวง มีขุนเขาสิเนรุ ๑,๐๐๐ มีชมพูทวีป ๑,๐๐๐ มีอมรโคยานทวีป ๑,๐๐๐ มีอุตตรกุรุทวีป ๑,๐๐๐ มีปุพพวิเทหทวีป ๑,๐๐๐ มีมหาสมุทร ๔,๐๐๐ มีท้าวมหาราช ๔,๐๐๐ มีจาตุมหาราชิกา ๑,๐๐๐ มีดาวดึงส์ ๑,๐๐๐ มียามา ๑,๐๐๐ มีดุสิต ๑,๐๐๐ มีนิมมานรดี ๑,๐๐๐ มีปรนิมมิตวสวัสตี ๑,๐๐๐ มีพรหมโลก ๑,๐๐๐ อานนท์ นี้เรียกว่า สหัสสีจูฬนิกาโลกธาตุ (โลกธาตุขนาดเล็กมี ๑,๐๐๐).
อานนท์ สหัสสีจูฬนิกาโลกธาตุมีประมาณเท่าใด โลกมีประมาณเท่านั้นทวีขึ้นคูณขึ้นโดยส่วน ๑,๐๐๐ อานนท์ นี้เรียกว่า ทวิสหัสสีมัชฌิมิกาโลกธาตุ (โลกธาตุขนาดกลางมี ๑,๐๐๐,๐๐๐).
อานนท์ ทวิสหัสสีมัชฌิมิกาโลกธาตุมีประมาณเท่าใด โลกมีประมาณเท่านั้นทวีคูณขึ้นโดยส่วน ๑,๐๐๐ อานนท์ นี้เรียกว่า ติสหัสสีมหาสหัสสีโลกธาตุ (โลกธาตุขนาดใหญ่มี ๑,๐๐๐,๐๐๐๐,๐๐๐๐).
อานนท์ ตถาคตเมื่อมีความจำนง ย่อมสามารถจะใช้เสียงให้ติสหัสสีมหาสหัสสีโลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ หรือมีความจำนงให้รู้แจ้งเท่าใดก็ได้.
ภันเต ก็พระผู้มีพระภาคสามารถจะใช้เสียงให้ติสหัสสีมหาสหัสสีโลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ หรือทำให้รู้แจ้งได้เท่าที่พระองค์มีความจำนงด้วยวิธีอย่างไร.
อานนท์ ในกรณีนี้ ตถาคตจะพึงแผ่รัศมี (โอภาส) ไปทั่วติสหัสสีมหาสหัสสีโลกธาตุเสียก่อน เมื่อใด หมู่สัตว์รู้สึกต่อแสงสว่างนั้นแล้ว เมื่อนั้น ตถาคตก็จะเปล่งเสียงให้สัตว์เหล่านั้นได้ยิน อานนท์ ตถาคตสามารถจะใช้เสียงให้ติสหัสสีมหาสหัสสีโลกธาตุรู้แจ้งได้ หรือทำให้รู้แจ้งได้เท่าที่มีความจำนง ด้วยวิธีการอย่างนี้.
เมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสดังนี้แล้ว ท่านพระอานนท์ได้ทูลว่า เป็นลาภของเราหนอ เราได้ดีแล้วหนอ ที่เรามีพระศาสดาผู้มีฤทธิ์มาก มีอานุภาพมากอย่างนี้.
เมื่อท่านพระอานนท์ทูลอย่างนี้แล้ว ท่านพระอุทายีได้กล่าวกะท่านพระอานนท์ว่า อาวุโส อานนท์ ในข้อนี้ท่านจะได้ประโยชน์อะไร หากศาสดาของท่านมีฤทธิ์มาก มีอานุภาพมากอย่างนี้.
เมื่อท่านพระอุทายีกล่าวอย่างนี้แล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสกะท่านพระอุทายีว่า อุทายี เธออย่าได้กล่าวอย่างนี้ ถ้าอานนท์ยังไม่หมดราคะเช่นนี้ แล้วพึงทำกาละไป เธอพึงเป็นเจ้าแห่งเทวดาในหมู่เทวดา ๗ ครั้ง พึงเป็นพระเจ้าจักพรรดิในชมพูทวีปนี้แหละ ๗ ครั้ง เพราะจิตที่เลื่อมใสนั้น อุทายี ก็แต่ว่าอานนท์จักปรินิพพานในอัตภาพนี้เอง.
