When giving up these six qualities you can enter and remain in the first absorption.

“Mendicants, without giving up these six qualities you can’t enter and remain in the first absorption. What six? Desire for sensual pleasures, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt. And the drawbacks of sensual pleasures haven’t been truly seen clearly with right wisdom. Without giving up these six qualities you can’t enter and remain in the first absorption.
But after giving up these six qualities you can enter and remain in the first absorption. What six? Desire for sensual pleasures, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt. And the drawbacks of sensual pleasures have been truly seen clearly with right wisdom. After giving up these six qualities you can enter and remain in the first absorption.”
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุยังละธรรม ๖ ประการเหล่านี้ไม่ได้ ย่อมเป็นผู้ไม่สามารถที่จะบรรลุปฐมฌาน ธรรม ๖ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) กามฉันทะ (ความพอใจในกาม)
๒) พยาบาท (ความมุ่งร้าย, ความประสงค์ร้าย)
๓) ถีนมิทธะ (ความง่วง, ความที่จิตหดหู่)
๔) อุทธัจจกุกกุจจะ (อุทธัจจะ = ความคิดฟุ้งซ่าน, กุกกุจจะ = ความรำคาญ, ความกังวล)
๕) วิจิกิจฉา (ความสงสัย)
๖) เธอย่อมไม่เห็นโทษในกามทั้งหลายด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้องตามความเป็นจริง
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุยังละธรรม ๖ ประการเหล่านี้แลไม่ได้ ย่อมเป็นผู้ไม่สามารถที่จะบรรลุปฐมฌาน.
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุละธรรม ๖ ประการเหล่านี้ได้แล้ว ย่อมเป็นผู้สามารถที่จะบรรลุปฐมฌาน ธรรม ๖ ประการอะไรบ้าง คือ
๑) กามฉันทะ
๒) พยาบาท
๓) ถีนมิทธะ
๔) อุทธัจจกุกกุจจะ
๕) วิจิกิจฉา
๖) เธอย่อมเห็นโทษในกามทั้งหลายด้วยปัญญาอันถูกต้องตามความเป็นจริง
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุละธรรม ๖ ประการเหล่านี้แลได้แล้ว ย่อมเป็นผู้สามารถที่จะบรรลุปฐมฌาน.
